We can't emphasize enough the importance of testing your web site as you work on it. At the very least, preview your site often in Internet Explorer on your computer as you work.

If possible, ask your family and friends to test your web site on different computers, with different monitor sizes and resolutions, in different browsers. Below are some issues that you may want to consider.

  • Screen size
    Test in an 800x600 resolution monitor and a 1024x768 monitor, at the very least. Make sure that your pages work for both resolutions.
  • Browser types
    Test in Internet Explorer, Netscape 4, and Netscape 6 and 7. You may also wish to test in Opera. You can download older versions of browsers at http://browsers.evolt.org/. Install the browsers into different program directories so that they don't overwrite each other (this may involve choosing the "Custom" option, but not necessarily).
  • OS types
    Depending on your audience, you may wish to test on both PCs and Macs. For example, a lot of schools may use Macs in their computer labs or classrooms. If your audience will be teachers or students, you will want to test on a Mac.
